But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and moreover, I will not let Israel go.”
Exodus 5:2 ESV
If Pharaoh knew the Lord will he acknowledge Him as he did with the Egyptian gods? I would not think so. The problem with Pharaoh is not knowing God but not wanting to be subjected to God’s rulership. His heart was already hard even before God hardened it Himself. His heart was filled with pride that even after the signs he witnessed He cannot recognize the great judgment God was inflicting on them. Pharaoh would rather worship man-made gods than the one true God maybe because he knew that they cannot really reign over him. Would it be wiser and more practical to worship just one God than several gods? Meanwhile, a polytheist who rejects God is a self-defeating idea and seems illogical. Therefore, knowing God is not simply intellectual but a matter of the heart.
Same thing is happening in modern times. Sadly, many people have Pharaoh’s heart. Not that they don’t know Jesus but they don’t want His lordship so they reject Him. I pray that people will not end up like Pharaoh. No heart is too hard for Jesus to work on, we just need to be humble to accept Him to pour out God’s grace so the restoration takes place.
Soli Deo Gloria!
