Passages That Need More Studying

I committed myself on reading the Bible from cover-to-cover this year. However, while reading, I do encounter passages that are not easy to grasp or needs extra time for research to know more. Since I don’t usually like to handwrite notes (I have journals but have not really wrote on them), so better to list them here and by God’s grace will try to find answers or clarity in the future:

  • The name of Moses’ father-in-law

In Exodus 2:18 (Numbers 10:29), he is referred to as Reuel but in the following chapters (Exodus 3:1, Exodus 4:18, Exodus 18) he was called as Jethro. Could it be because of name change just like Abram-Abraham, Sarai-Sarah and Jacob-Israel?

  • The incident in the lodging place. Why God suddenly wanted to kill Moses? If my understanding is correct.

At a lodging place on the way the Lord met him and sought to put him to death. Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it and said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!” So he let him alone. It was then that she said, “A bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision.
